Eighth Worldwide Consortium of Korean Studies Centers Workshop
Call for Papers
July 4-7, 2012, Korea University, Korea
Graduate students in Korean Studies are invited to the Eighth Worldwide Consortium of Korean Studies Centers Workshop. The workshop is designed to provide a forum for graduate students in Korean studies to share their research in an academic environment and to promote international interest in Korea. This year’s workshop will be hosted on July 4-7 by the International Center for Korean Studies, a part of the Research Institute of Korean Studies (Director Yongchul Choe), Korea University. It will center on the main theme of “Tradition and Transculturation”, but a free session will be provided for a small number of graduate students whose research plans are of great interest, but not directly related to the theme.
Participating graduate students will give presentations on topics of their choice related to the workshop theme in a series of thematically or methodologically coherent panels chaired by established academics drawn from Consortium member universities or from the region. After student presentations, these academics will comment on disciplinary and methodological issues and recommend ways in which the papers can be improved for publication. General discussion will follow.
Twelve additional graduate students nominated by Consortium member universities also will be selected to participate. Another twelve graduate students will be chosen through open competition to present papers. Any graduate student specializing in Korean studies, including those enrolled in non-Consortium institutions, may apply for an invitation to the workshop. Preference will be given to students enrolled in doctoral programs.
Graduate students from institutions outside Korea who are selected to take part in the workshop will be eligible for funding assistance. This assistance will cover accommodations and meals during the workshop, as well as a significant portion of travel expenses.
Applications must be submitted by e-mail addressed to Dr. Jeongsoo Shin (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the subject header, “WORLDWIDE, your name”. In the body of your e-mail message, you will introduce your name and affiliation, and e-mail address, followed by the paper title. You will attach a file that includes a one-page resume and one-page abstract (in English or Korean). The abstract should be written in MS-word program (11-point font, single spaced).
