The Korean Studies Promotion Service Holds an Information Session at the Twenty-ninth AKSE Conference

The Korean Studies Promotion Service (KSPS) was in attendance at the Twenty-ninth Conference of the Association of Korean Studies in Europe (AKSE) from April 11 to 14, 2019 in Rome and held an information session.

Roughly forty researchers from Korea and elsewhere attended this international information session. The session mainly focused on introducing the Global Korean Studies programs and included time for Q&A.

Additionally, Academy of Korean Studies President Ahn Byung-ook along with KSPS staff visitedUniversità di Roma La Sapienza, the host of this year’s AKSE conference, to discuss trends in Korean Studies in Europe and Italy during the first half of the year. Between 2013 and 2016, the Università di Roma La Sapienza was part of the KSPS Seed Program for Korean Studies, and as part of this project Korean Studies curriculum was moved out of Asian Studies and an independent Korean Studies department was established.

Also, while in Rome, KSPS staff met with researchers from the University of California, San Diego (Core University Program for Korean Studies) as well as The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Babes-Bolyai University (Seed Program for Korean Studies) to consult about issues and difficulties in the implementation of their projects.
